Next Meeting: Roberta Dewa, AGM & Flash Fiction results!

We have a busy meeting ahead of us on Thursday 7th September as our speaker will be Roberta Dewa – author, lecturer and judge of our recent Flash Fiction competition.

Roberta DewaRoberta published three historical novels back in the 1980s and then moved into academia, entering the University of Nottingham as a mature student and taking the ‘Grand Slam’ of English Literature: BA, MA and PhD. She then stayed on as a teacher, lecturing in language studies and running her own course in Creative Writing. Roberta published a memoir, The Memory of Bridges, in 2013 and a novel, The Esplanade, the following year. In June 2017 she was Commended for her poem, Something Like Dawn, in the Writing East Midlands competition. For more details on Roberta and her work see her website www.robertadewa.co.uk

One of the advantages of Flash Fiction is its brevity (our competition, on the theme of Waiting, had a maximum word count of just 100) so we may be able to sample a few of the winners.

We will also be having a bit of a shuffle around in the formal AGM with some committee members stepping down and others being frog-marched encouraged into the hot seats positions of respect and authority. Brave new worlds and all that. I’m sure it’ll be grand.

If you would like to attend to get a feel for what Fosseway Writers is about, the meeting starts at 7:00 pm at Knights Court, Baldertongate, just around the corner from Newark Library.
