Come on down to Fosseway Writers’ next meeting on Thursday 2nd November 2017 and hear from our Hero of Horror, Alex Davis. A regular visitor to Newark, Alex runs writing workshops throughout the East Midlands, particularly Edge Lit in Derby. We will be welcoming him to Knights Court as the honoured judge of our Fiction Competition, set to the theme of “Giving Up” and we look forward to not only hearing about the winning entries but also getting an insight into why they appealed to Alex and what works in a short story of under one thousand words.
“Giving Up” gives us a nice segue in to Alex’s pet genre of horror, just in time to catch the last pumpkins of Halloween. Creepiness and frights aren’t only found in haunted houses populated by supernatural spooks, monsters and serial killers. Alex also wants us to consider how to build tension and atmosphere in more normal environments, so be prepared to bring a pen, paper and a sofa to hide behind.
The frightful fun starts at 7 pm at Knights Court, Balderton Gate, and lasts until 9 pm. If you’d like to come along and see what Fosseway Writers is all about, get information on our competitions and learn how to write spine-tingling stories, get in touch and we’ll save a seat for you (and we promise it won’t be the creepy rocking chair that moves by itself).
