Writings on the Walls

Have you ever looked at a building and wondered about the tales it could tell?
Newark-on-Trent is an English Midland town with over a thousand years of history and possesses a pretty market square, an elegant church, riverside warehouses, old breweries, numerous old pubs and a ruined castle. In this series of stories inspired by the buildings of the town, Fosseway Writers reveal all: the secrets behind the doors; supernatural events; forgotten histories and folklore; Regency flirtations; a hotel with memories; and the town’s very own superhero.
All absolute fiction, of course.
But the buildings are very real. Allow us to take you on a tour of the town.

Contributing authors: Abigail Ted, Adrian Bean, C.L. Peache, Luke Settle, Linda Cooper, Lynn Roulstone, Maria Dziedzan, Mark Smith, Martin Costello, N.K. Rowe and Samantha Hook.

Blood, Sweat and Typewriters

A follow-up to the 2018 anthology, Gobstoppers, Shrimps and Sour Monkeys, this is a collection of short stories, flash fiction and poetry from current members of Fosseway Writers. Featuring competition winners and content previously selected for other literary publications, this book also contains a wide variety of genres and styles from eighteen different writers. Inside these pages you will find family dramas, beautiful travelogues, unreliable histories, personal recollections, unexpected twists, quirky tales and a taste of the supernatural. They might not have been written on actual typewriters and the amounts of blood and sweat exuded might have been no more than a paper cut in a warm room, but playing the creative licence card is one of the perks of being a writer.

Contributing authors: Abigail Ted, Alice Flear, Anne Howkins, C.L. Peache, Helen Yourston, Jacqueline Boyd, Janey Harvey, Linda Cooper, Lucy Grace, Lynn Roulstone, Mandy Thomson, Maria Dziedzan, Mark Smith, Martin Costello, N.K. Rowe, Robbie Bellekom, Sam Hook and Tina Fritchley.

Gobstoppers Shrimps and Sour Monkeys

“This smorgasbord of stories and poems from the talented group of Fosseway Writers is by turns witty, dark and poignant – and deliciously moreish.” Clare Harvey (The Gunner Girl, The English Agent, The Night Raid).

The literature-based snacks you can read between novels without ruining your appetite.

A pick’n’mix selection of short stories and poems from current members of Fosseway Writers as well as some Greatest Hits from the past. You’ll see some strained relationships, some new beginnings and some sudden endings. Some of our selection are funny; some are absolutely not. Some are sweet. Some will leave a nasty taste in your mouth. Perhaps you should try one? Put your hand in – what will you pull out? It’s probably Death. There’s a lot of Death. Still, chin up, eh? Keep ‘em away from the kids, though…
