About Us

Fosseway Writers are a long-established group based in Newark, Nottinghamshire (itself situated on the Roman ‘Fosse Way’, which is mostly now the route of the modern A46).

The aims of the group are to:

• provide a welcoming and stimulating environment for local writers
• engage with, support and encourage local people who would like to try writing but don’t know where to start
• help members to improve and develop their writing skills

We achieve these goals through meetings, workshops, friendly socials, competitions and various online interactions.

We usually meet in person twice a month:

• in a private meeting room at NEWARK LIBRARY at 7:30 pm on the first WEDNESDAY of every month for a formal meeting (speaker / workshop / competition results). Newark Library is opposite the Odeon Cinema, just off London Road, and then…
• on the third THURSDAY of the month at the LETSXCAPE CAFE in Newark Market Square. This is a less formal meeting where we offer members the chance to read an excerpt of their work, and we all have the opportunity to discuss our own writing. This venue offers beer, wine and cakes too!

New members are welcome to come along and try us out, we ask for a modest contribution of £1 for attending one of our meetings as a visitor.

Alternatively you can become a member for an annual subscription of just £15, for which you get 10 formal meetings (speakers or specific themed workshops). There are also 11-12 group meetings where we discuss group and individual projects, plus some structured practical work. We also like to work to ad hoc prompts to encourage members to get writing.

As a member you will also get a £1 discount on competition entries, ‘author privileges’ to this blog, allowing you to post your own material (as well as basic instructions on how to ‘get blogging’), and unrestricted access to the Members Area forum.
